Perhaps the most famous of his street art, Rage, Flower Thrower by Banksy originally appeared on a wall in the Middle East. In lieu of contemporary social media, his social messages are submitted through evocative graffiti left in unexpected places. This poignant call to peace depicts a solitary man wielding a bouquet of flowers as a weapon instead of the all-too-commonplace Molotov cocktails or rocks.
Like the British artist himself, the individual acts anonymously. Although the work was created amid a hotbed of conflict in Jerusalem, the actor is stenciled in black, his appearance hidden by an inverted baseball cap and kerchief over his face. He could be anyone who stands to fight one-to-one throughout the world.
More importantly, our attention is captured by the flowers being hurled. The only portion of the image in vibrant colors, the yellow, red and green bouquet suggest life only flourishes through peace.
