‘And Then And Then Yellow’ by Takeshi Murakami characterizes one of the artist’s most iconic cartoon figures, Mr. Dob, with a yellow mustard base color. Mr. Dob is the artist’s alter ego displaying a letter ‘D’ on his left ear, letter ‘B’ on his right ear and a circular head resembling an ‘O’ to spell out his name. Murakami had wanted to capture elements of the popular Japanese comic book character Doraemon as well as the well-known video game character Sonic the Hedgehog. ‘And Then And Then Yellow’ is meant to symbolize the artist’s disdain toward the emptiness that consumerism leads to in society. While yellow is prominent for Mr. Dob in this art piece other colors such as blue, burgundy, and green appear less dominantly.
